Jupiter

Posted on October 22, 2010 in Uncategorized by froggy

At school we are doing a personal project that we research over the term. I chose to do it on Jupiter because I didn’t know a lot about it and I wanted to know more about its moons and the great red spot. I have done some research and I am very interested to know more about why it’s so big, what it’s made of etc. I have a really good book on stars so I can use it to do research.

If anybody knows anything about Jupiter could you please comment and tell me, thanks, Froggy.

The Graveyard Book

Posted on October 18, 2010 in Uncategorized by froggy

The Graveyard book is a great book for all ages. It’s written by the highly acclaimed Neil Gaiman who is the author of books like Coraline, American gods and Neverwhere. It’s about a boy named Nobody Owens or Bod to his friends who lives like all other young boy, in a graveyard. Bod goes on many adventures, like to the land of ghouls and being chased by a murderer who has been trying to kill Bod family since Bod was three. Neil has writen it in his own way and has done it very well. I am still reading it and it’s hard to put down. Many other great authors have commented on his books  like Diana Wynn Jones and wonthe 50 books you can’t put down.

I would recommend it to 13 to 16  boys and girls but adults 30+ would enjoy it too. Well that’s all from the Frog-Man, see you later.

In class we made  poems called synonym poems. Wehad to choose a title word and then for the first line you had to use three words that meant the same  and then in the second line a phrase thatdescribes the title word. The last words in the first line  and the last line in rhyme. these are the ones we made;

Happy
Proud, pleased,delighted,glad
happy is the opposite of being sad.

In class we are learning about poems. One of the poems we are learning is a Haiku. It’s quite a hard poem to do but they sound quite good. the pattern is’

First line five syllables
Second line seven syllables
Third line five syllables and most of the time they’re about nature.

These are some of mine,

Spring Time

The magpies warble
and the trees are strong again.
it’s spring time again.

My desk

Pens apon the desk
of many different colours,
and all different shapes.

40 Hour Famine

Posted on September 15, 2010 in Uncategorized by froggy

This year I did the 40 Hour Famine. I gave up my right arm and technology. That means that at school I couldn’t use the laptops and had to write everything in my left hand, My right hand is messy and my left hand is way messier. Then at home when I thought the hardest part was over but then I couldn’t watch TV and a really funny Simpsons episode, and couldn’t use my DS or the computer. I finished two and a half books because I was so bored and I’m not  a very fast reader. It was a really good experience and it was good to put my self in some one else’s shoes for once. I raised around $80 and I hope it will go to good use in the places that need it the most.  That’s all from the froggy, see you next post.

Book Week Parade

Posted on September 2, 2010 in Uncategorized by froggy
Our school always has a book week  parade. This year I dressed up as a Troll, the troll from “The Billy Goats.” I had Big ears and a big nose and I wore dirty pants and I long brown top and we spiked my hair up so it looked awesome. I think I looked pretty good and I got lots of comments. Lots of the year 7′s dressed up and looked great. There were fairies, pac-man ghosts and superheros everywhere. We got to see all the other students as they walked around and then our class walked around. It was a memorable experience and probably the best book  week I’ve had in my schooling years. It was really cool seeing all the little kids and older ones all dressing up and seeing all the smiling parents. I’m really going to miss it since at high school there is nothing like it.

Book Club

Posted on July 27, 2010 in Uncategorized by froggy

In class we are doing a group reading called Book Club. You get to choose a book from a group of books chosen by a teacher. The book I chose was Ranger’s Apprentice;  The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flannagan I chose this book over the others because I have heard a lot of good comments and reveiws of it. I have heard it’s  a great action packed adventure that will blow your socks of and so far it’s living up to its reputation. I have thought ofstarting the series many times but never got around to it, maybe after our group finishes this book i’ll read the rest of the series. I like books that make you want to keep reading them and reading them and this book seemed to have that  and many. In my group also reading this book is Zappy, Lamo, Jay and 123 Jam.

Andrew “Andy” Sydney Withiel Thomas

Posted on June 29, 2010 in Uncategorized by froggy

Hi all, at school this term we have to do a blog post on a famous person born in Adelaide so I chose to do it on Andrew Thomas, the first Australian-born astronaut to fly in space.

.

Andy Thomas was born in Adelaide on the 18th of December 1951. He moved to the USA so he could become a NASA astronaut. He is married to another astronaut, Shannon Walker.

In childhood he loved the stars and space. He spent his primary school years at St Andrews and then progressed to St Peters for high school before heading on to The University of Adelaide where he received his bachelor degree in mechanical engineering. After that he accepted an offer from Lockheed in Atlanta and a few years later he was an organizations principal of aerodynamic scientist. He continued in the field, soon getting a promotion to senior researcher.

A few years later he was chosen by NASA and was then made his debut mission later that year. Following a year of training, he was appointed as a part of the astronaut group and qualified for space flights as payload commander for STS-77. He joined the Astronaut support person group (ASP) before finally getting a chance to fly in space. Although Paul D. Scully-Power had entered orbit as an oceanographer in 1985, Thomas was the first Australia-born professional astronaut to enter space.

Soon after, he did more training in Russia, preparing for a long-duration flight in space. It came in 1998 where he served as Board Engineer 2 aboard the Russian Space Station Mir for 130 days! He didn’t do any more flights in space for a few years but from August 2001 to November 2003, Thomas did serve as Deputy Chief of the Astronaut Office. He then flew his final flight in space on STS-114.

Thomas has flown in many missions including STS-77STS-89MirSTS-91,STS-102STS-114 and has made a huge difference in the Space Shuttle Main Engine project, the Solid Rocket Motor project and the External Tank project at the Marshall Space Flight Centre. He has  travelled over 1200000 kilometres and orbited earth 2500 times. He has logged over 177 days in space! He is currently working issues for the Exploration Branch of the Astronaut Office. He has made a huge difference in NASA and around the world, showing everyone, everywhere that if you put your head to something and try hard, you can do great things.
